Our teams work to address each individual on a holistic level so they feel heard, respected, and safe in our care.

We offer hands-on help to address chronic homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, disability, and systematic poverty by offering innovative solutions and proactive services to the most vulnerable in Schenectady County.

Our Residential Programs are staffed 24/7. Our Resident Assistants are responsible for supporting residents by assisting with essential living skills and activities while ensuring a safe and healthy living environment and upholding the dignity and respect of each individual.

We have an available part—time shift working Sat and Sun, 8am – 4pm (16 hrs/week). This position is located at our Lighthouse residence in Schenectady, NY.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Conduct routine rounds and update communication log and address issues as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and legible reports and records including, but not limited to:
    • Daily Communication logs
    • Medication logs
    • Incident reports
  • Assist residents with living skills such as, but not limited to:
    • Recreational games with an educational component (i.e. scrabble, word search)
    • Personal hygiene- ensure appropriate items such as soap, toothpaste, etc. are available and used by residents
    • Securing personal items such as medications, valuables, etc.
  • Attend to daily maintenance and upkeep of residence and grounds as outlined in the shift schedule (i.e., general housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow removal, etc.).
  • Work with Veterans in the agency’s Transitional Housing program,
  • Communicate with supervisor in a timely manner, as needed (i.e.: maintenance concerns).
  • Attend all designated meetings/trainings.
  • Participate in monthly fire drills.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents and keep all information regarding residents confidential.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • An associate degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in written form) with residents, peers, and management.
  • Must have reliable transportation with the ability to work assigned shift regularly.
  • Ability to work hours beyond the normally scheduled work hours preferred.
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict and/or confrontation to reach a resolution satisfactory to all parties.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure to meet established work goals. 
  • Ability to effectively apply agency polices to residents.
  • Ability to work with diverse and challenging clientele.
  • Ability to represent the agency professionally to all parties.
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, and lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions.
